Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter among My servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
