The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
