۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 "It was you who tried to mislead us from righteousness". 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 Allah will say: will ye look down? 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
