The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and shade extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
