He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
