The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
