The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30

عند قراءة القرآن الملون في وضعية اللغة العربية المرسومة بالأحرف الإنجليزية، قد لا تلاحظ وجود منظومة برمجية مصممة لمطابقة متطلبات علامات الوقف في النص العربي الأصلي. فكما تعلم، يحتوي القرآن على خمسة أنواع رئيسية من علامات الوقف. (1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. (3) وقف جائز مع تساوي أولوية الوقف والوصل، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال النصف للنصف. (4) وقف جائز مع الوصل أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلث. (5) وقف المجاذبة أو المعانقة حيث يجب الوقف في أي من موضعين قريبين ولكن ليس كلاهما، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة تظهر في أحد الموقعين باحتمال النصف للنصف.
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
