Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha, Meem. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
