Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
