The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
