The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
