The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And affirms goodness, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And rejects the best, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
