Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Clear Book. 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 The command that We have been sending 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
