The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
