Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 By the receding night 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 a warning to humans, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 about the guilty ones: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. 56
