Also We revealed unto Moses, 'Go with My servants by night; strike for them a dry path in the sea, fearing not overtaking, neither afraid.' 77 Pharaoh pursued them with his hosts, but they were submerged by the sea, which was destined to overwhelm them. 78 The Pharaoh and his people had gone away from guidance. 79 Children of Israel! We saved you from your enemy and made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount and sent down on you manna and quails, 80 'Eat of the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress therein lest My Anger should fall upon you, and upon whosoever My Anger falls has assuredly fallen, 81 but to whosoever repents, believes and does good deeds, and is at last guided, I am Forgiving' 82 ۞ The Lord asked, "Moses, what made you attend your appointment with Me before your people?" 83 He submitted, “They are here, just behind me – and O my Lord, I hastened towards You, in order to please You.” 84 He said: So surely We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray. 85 So Moses returned to his people full of anger and regret. "O my people," he said, "did not your Lord make you a better promise? Did the time of covenant seem too long to you? Or did you wish the wrath of your Lord to fall upon you that you broke the promise you had made to me?" 86 They said: "We broke not the promise to thee, as far as lay in our power: but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the (whole) people, and we threw them (into the fire), and that was what the Samiri suggested. 87 (Then he brought out for them a Calf, a mere body that lowed; and they said, 'This is your god, and the god of Moses, whom he has forgotten.' 88 Did they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good? 89
