The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
