The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night as it envelops; 1 And the day resplendent 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
