The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
