He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
