The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
