The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
