The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
