The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
