And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 So the fish swallowed him while he did that for which he blamed himself 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 God is too glorious to be described as they describe Him 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 We glorify God." 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 for, long ago has Our word gone forth unto Our servants, the message-bearers, 171 will certainly be victorious 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Do they really wish to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
