The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
