The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
