The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
