Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
