He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
