The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
