and We saved the Children of Israel from a humiliating punishment 30 from Pharaoh who was most prominent among the prodigals. 31 And We exalted them over the other people knowingly, 32 and bestowed upon them the Signs wherein lay an evident test for them. 33 [Now,] behold, these [people] say indeed: 34 "That [which is ahead of us] is but our first [and only] death, and we shall not be raised to life again. 35 Bring us our fathers, if what you say is true' 36 Are they better than the people of Tubba' and those who came before them? We destroyed them, because they were guilty of sin. 37 For [thus it is:] We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in mere idle play: 38 We created them with definite purpose; but most of them do not understand. 39 Verily the Day of sorting out is the time appointed for all of them,- 40 the Day when no friend shall be of the least avail to another, nor shall any be helped, 41 save him upon whom God has mercy; He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 42
