Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
