The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And spreading shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
