The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 Whereas when they give others after measuring or weighing, they give them less! 3 Do such people not realize that they will be raised up, 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 the Day when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 Therefore they will be screened off from their Lord that day, 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 Nay, verily the record of the Righteous is (preserved) in 'Illiyin. 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 It is a written book, 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 its seal is musk, for this let the competitors compete; 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a spring, the nearest ones to God will drink from it. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 when they passed by them, they would wink at one another; 30 And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing. 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Did not the disbelievers get repaid for what they used to do? 36
