Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
