Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 laboring, wornout, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets outspread. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
