He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
