The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 unto a mighty day 5 The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Woe to them! Let them know that the records of the sinner's deeds are in Sijin. 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 A book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 a written record, 20 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 On thrones, watching. 23 and in their faces you shall know the radiance of bliss. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 Its seal is upon musk; and for this should those who crave be eager. 26 And its mixture is of Tasneem, 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 though they were not sent to be their keepers -- 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
