Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
