The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
