The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Scorching the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
