The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your clothing purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
