Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
