The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
