Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
