The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
