The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But save him who fears 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
