The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 Pollution shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
