Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning for people -- 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
